Itinerary description
We were thrilled to find this hidden gem in Antigua!
The old dirt path is now a road. The way up is steep, but easy. Heading down needs more care only because of the slippy gravel-like fine stone.
The start of the road is tricky to find. Keep your eyes open for the quarry. That is the only visual clue!
Directions: From Jolly Harbour, head North on Valley Road. After the 2nd gas station (the one in Ebenezer), there is a fork in the road. Take the right fork to Bendell Road. (This just South of the line going from the Parish of St. Mary to the Parish of St. John.) Follow Bendell Road for a while. You will pass gardens/fields on the left. When you reach a dirt road on the right, turn and park. (If you reach the large quarry and Antigua Masonry Products Ltd. building, you have gone too far.)
You begin walking up the dirt road, walking over the chain road block... then through the iron gate. Follow the road by/around the small quarry. You will see the Megaliths at the top of the hill. Continue walking. When you are near the stone formations, follow the trail up to the stones. They are in two sections. These are thought to be c. 500-1250 A.D.
On our way "down" we opted to see if we could hike up and around the other side of the mountain. We stopped and turned around because it was too late in the day to get lost!
