Itinerary description
Put the GPS on Gjævenesvegen 61. Shortly before the house you see the signpost to Megardsstølen on the gravel road to the left. Follow the road until it ends. After a while you get to the boom, it costs 30 NOK to drive on. At the end of the road you come to a "roundabout". There you can park, there is space for about 5 cars there. Furthermore you have 2 alternatives, there is a forest road up the left and a path through the forest, just behind the bench. I recommend taking the trail through the woods on the way up and the forest road back. The path through, the forest is marked: Trandal and Riksheim. The forest trail offers varied terrain, exciting surroundings along the nearby river, the trail is clear and it is not possible to go wrong. When one comes out of the forest, the trail begins to flatten, but then there is also more water in the trail, especially if it has been raining lately. When one comes up there are 4 water in a row, that is: Heimstevatnet, Lillevatnet, Mellomvatnet and Storevatnet (which is the largest). If you continue the hike and keep the water on your right, you can cross the mountain and descend to Riksheim. Or you can turn around and walk the same way home. If you go late at night, I recommend walking on gravel roads, then you can see the sun set in the sea in the West, weather permitting. Then the best time is to leave cabin at mountain at. 2200, if it's around Santhans (June 23).
