Itinerary description
Waypoints
Starting point. Difficult access road. It is recommended to have a vehicle with good clearance or experience on rough
The trail is steep but easy to follow.
Important connection point from access road to primary trail/road
There is a rough and rarely traveled trail covered with leaves angling slightly downhill. Leaves are thick but trail is easily to follow and not long before it intersects with better track coming up from the right.
Typical road/trail.
This old road will eventually become more used as this is the very end. The access for this road is from the NE, a long ways away.

The route features many great views or rugged mountain features with the feel that you are away from most human activity (particularly at the beginning).

I took a side track up to a viewpoint. This trail doesn't continue but is a great short trail through pine forest to get some great views.

The trail to Mesa de la Virgin branches to the right here. Before doing so, I continued straight and uphill for awhile before turning back to this point.

Trail here can be hard to follow but heading up ridge will reveal various forestry work trails (production of carbon).

The Mesa is a large and an amazingly flat landscape in this mountainous area. There seems to be some cattle grazing (and lots of deer) but I saw little in the signs of other human habitation/continuous activity. (I am curious to access the Mesa from the south where there are villages but suspect there are only rough trail access points due to the steep sides of the mesa.

The views along the ridge route coming back are stunning but there is no trail in many sections and the terrain very steep.
