Itinerary description
Pico Viejo - the 2nd highest peak in Tenerife. The climb is considered more difficult than to reach the top of Pico Teide itself. This is mostly due to steep ascents across soft unstable volcanic sand fields. The south-west facade is always exposed to intense sunlight. Total altitude difference is over 1000m and and it is recommended to use trail number 9 of Trail Network of Teide National park. The crater of Pico Viejo is very impressive, around 800m in diameter with approx 200m high veritcal walls. The might be windy on top, so warm clothes are recommended.
