Itinerary description

Monachil-Cerro Huenes on an almost circular route (w/ English version)
We leave from the Granada town of Monachil, where there is a large parking lot, taking the PR-A 283 "Cahorros de Monachil" in the opposite direction. This itinerary leads us to the top of the pits that make up the cahorros of the Monachil River. At that point, we take a marked path that climbs very steeply to the refuge of the Cold Fountain. This shelter was built to support the reforestation work of this entire hillside, but it is currently abandoned and converted into a corral. There is a pillar whose waters come from the Cold Spring, but it was dry. Next to the pillar, there is the path PR-A 20, which leads to the Huenes hill and which is the one we are going to follow. The path passes through the farmhouse of the Fuente Fría and goes up to the plains of the Chopo to go down, on the other side, to the Siete Ojos bridge. We leave it on the plains because there we already have the summit of Cerro Huenes a stone's throw away, with its 1806 m.a.s.l. After enjoying the spectacular views, we go to the geodesic vertex, which is on an independent promontory and, from there, we are going to go down the west side, combining cross-country sections with small livestock traces. The descent represents no more danger than going carefully so as not to slip with the loose stone, but it is done well. The descent culminates in the Cold Fountain spring, which was dry. There, we connect with the one-way itinerary to the refuge of the Cold Fountain. We then continue the PR-A 20 in the direction of the Collado Sevilla, for two kilometers, to the point where it starts, on the right, a marked path that will go down in a zigzag to the Huenes stream, whose waters are runoff.
We descend the stream by a path parallel to a ditch that is with an excess of vegetation. Further on, we take a path that goes to the right that goes around the various ravines that are on the route until we find a lane that returns us to the PR-A 283 that we had taken on the first leg, already in the vicinity of Monachil. All that remains is to retrace the way to return to the starting point.
