I observed some marmots near Puy de Cliergue.

La Grande Cascade
La Grande Cascade, or the great waterfall, is a great spot above Mont-Dore at about 1300 meters.

Puy de Cliergue at 1691 meters. From here the descend to Mont-Dore starts.

Puy de Sancy
The Puy de Sancy is the highest peak in central France at 1885 m. Like most of the peaks here, it constitutes the remains of an extinct volcano. From the cable car station at 1780 meters there is a wooden walkway to the top, which you walk down as part of this trail. There is a panoramic viewpoint with orientation boards. The top was shrouded in clouds on the day of this walk, so I illustrated this waypoint with some photos taken earlier in the week when I took the cable car.

Roc de Cuzeau
At Roc de Cuzeau at 1737 the continuous climb from Mont-Dore stops and the ridge walk with smaller ascents and descents towards Puy de Sancy and onwards to Puy de Cliergue starts.

nous n'avons pas trouvé ce parcours difficile, de belles montées mais pas de passage technique, peut-être est-il classé difficile du fait de sa durée.
De magnifiques paysages et 7 mouflons à 20m coté vallée de Chaudefour !!!!
Thank you, p.guyet, for your comments. The classification was indeed made difficult for its length/ascent, also relative within this area, not for it being technically difficult.

I definitely wouldn't call this trail difficult, the initial ascent is kind of steep but after that it's pretty easy. Especially the after the highest peak the trail is very beautiful. I went on a Sunday and it was especially busy around the peak but that was to be expected.

Technical difficulty is low. Physical exertion can be high depending on how fast you go. Great trails, amazing scenery. I did however encounter a herd of sheep, that wasn't a problem but the dog guarding them was, the damn thing bit me! So be careful when encountering animals. Definitely worth it doing this hike/trail run.

In Mont Dore op veel plekken, bij het bergstation van de kabelbaan (zie waypoint Cable Car Station; le Pic du Sancy) en vlak bij het bergstation van de Funiculaire (Le Salon du Capucin). Op Google maps te vinden. Groeten, Tjaart

Wonderful trail featuring a few semi-exposed parts but all is well protected with chains. Even in cloudy weather worth a go.
