Itinerary description

This version of the PR-A 246 includes a few "extensions" to see all the wonderful things located to the lft and right hand side of the trail, such as the Torre Atalaya de los Guzmanes, a beautiful waterfall and the ruins of the Ermita del Calvario. Without these, the trail is only about 14 km long and with less elevation.

Note that this trail provides no shade whatsoever. So the best time of the year is in spring, when the landscape is colorful and there's a better chance of water for the waterfall, and as long as it is not too hot. Most likely it's also precious in wintertime, when it's chilly in the mountains and the sun is providing a bit of warmth.

This is the trail head for GR-246. The information panel is located just to the left of the hotel.

Montefrío has many crosses and this is one of them. There will be a few more along the trail.

Trail

Quite a bit of this trail is roads, but hardly any vehicles, and wide dirt tracks. And, like this one, without any shade.

This is one extra I added to the tour. It is well worth taking the little detour. From up where the tower is, the views are exceptional in all directions.

Threshing ground (?)

This is most likely an old threshing ground, but there are no signs indicating this.

Trail

This is where the nicest part of the trail begins. the passage down to the Arroyo de Molinas. It's narrow dirt track and not that easy to walk. It gets quits steep and the gravel makes it a bit tricky to go down. Poles would have been helpful here.

Again, something that looks like an old threshing ground, but not sure.

This old mill is located right above the beautiful river and next to a little pond and waterfall. There is a small dirt track off the road that leads you directly to an old bridge and the mill and river. Another one of the little detours and again, well worth it.

This little bridge leads to the ruins of the mill. To the right is the river with beautiful little ponds. To the left is a bigger pond and waterfall.

This little waterfall and the pond underneath are definitely worth the little detour. A very picturesque setting.

This is the upper part of the waterfall. Unfortunately with very little water. With more water it must be impressive.

This little path leads through an olive grove. Keep to the right and eventually there will be a real trail again.
