Itinerary description
Nice open hike with great views across the valleys and Aneto.
Trail starting at the village of Vilamos..pretty village with bar !
I parked outside the church..take the small road behind church and head south up a small track..
signposting is a little vague on all of the trail.
Follow the small track and then reach a larger forestry track, stay on this until reaching another track on your left..only marked with some cairns..continue past a hydro elec building..reach another track and stay left.
Stay on this track..it flattens out and you have the feeling of not on the right one..keep going until a large hand painted sign on left and climb into the trees.
From here there are no markings at all and the grass is quite long..a not very used track ..I got a little lost at this point and had to re trace my steps ..the gradient was quite steep.
ADVICE
If following my track..please follow on opposite direction as the return route is the correct one.
Eventually you come out to a animal water point and a sign giving directions ..large open forestry track..follow this heading north east again for some time ..switch backs a few times and you reach a small col..no sign for direction here, but pass over the col and descend the other side towards Estang long Vilamos with two small huts at the end..here another sign..climbs over some rocks to reach Estanh Redon Vilamos..lovely small lake and superb views of Aneto etc..Good lunch spot and rest.
Follow the small wooden markers up to Coth der Estanh..climb more steep here ...you reach a small area of small boulders.. take the left hand rout straight up .
I followed the wrong cairns again.
So follow my reverse route to the summit ...
