Itinerary description
Mt Cougal can be tackled either from Dungay, NSW or as we did, via the Cougal Cascades , Currumbin Valley, Qld. This 11km (return) hike took us up to Boyds Butte (ridge) then south along the saddle to East Cougal and return. It is a very testing trail with plenty of steep inclines and rock scrambling, up to the 680m peak. The majority of this hike is through rainforest where there is little or no sign of a track so it's very easy to get lost. You will need to rely on GPS and trail tape to find your way to the top safely. The rewards are some wonderful views across the Qld/ NSW border region. Check out our hiking Facebook page for further information, "Take A Hike- Qld".
