Itinerary description
Very nice loop trail, crossing two geological periods, panoramic views, wild life and a bit of "action". The trail starts at the Yehoram mountain night camp and climbs towards Salomon mountain, the highest point in the area (705m a.s.l.). While Yehoram mountain is part of a younger yellowish sand stone, Salomon belongs to an older geological period and is dark red to black, the contrast is magnificent. From the top of the mountain the view is open to all directions: south to the red sea, east to the Edom mountains in Jordan and north to the colored rock area of Amram's pillars. From the top of the mountain the trail decents through a series of dry red-rock waterfalls inside Batsheva creek. The climb up and down Salomon requires the use of fixed metal pegs. The trails continues through the wide Netafim creek, crossing again to yellow sand stone and finally returns to the staring point after climbing a steep and narrow crack in the stone.
Ibex and native birds might be spotted along the trail.
13km, +/-700m, 5.5hrs
