Hike completed 1st December 2018.

Hiked from Teviot Falls Brett Rd to The Steamers and back to the car in one day.

In total was almost a 20km hike and took around 8.5hrs. Took 4.5L of water. Saw no snakes but return trip had thousands of baby ground flies hatch the whole trip back.... Was crazy. Two of us did this hike. This was probably the most difficult hike I've done in a while (and my fitness level is quite good if I say so myself) and it took a good 45mins for my breathing to settle down after getting back to the car and driving back home!

The reason for this is that this total route is done by everyone over two days with an overnight camp... We did this in one day...and the terrain sure is as rugged as they come, believe me.

The Steamers view was what it was all about and was totally worth the agonising endurance. Single most rewarding view as the end goal of all my SE QLD hikes.

My advice is do not attempt this 1-DAY return route without exceptional fitness, sound navigational abilities, and a strong mental will and endurance. It's very easy to lose the faint track and start bush bashing amidst the Gympie Gympie plants.... But that's what I love about these challenging hikes.

Hopefully this blurb helps some poor soul contemplating this route. The much easier route is the Emu Creek Rd side, but would take me 3 hrs car travel to get there compared to 1.5hrs to Brett Rd.... But this route difficulty is so much harder, but great if you're Kokoda training!

All Trails app captured only one way accidentally....
Then return trip was captured on a secondary recording if interested. (https://www.alltrails.com/explore/recording/steamers-return-to-car)

Completed also in one day on 11/11/2020. Agree it was hard yakka but worth the effort. View from Lizard Point and of Steamers is magnificent. Fire has affected the Steamer to lookout section so lots of fresh prickly undergrowth. Otherwise track was relatively clear footpad with only occasional confusion. One large python sunning itself on the track and several lyre birds. Used 3 litres water and took 9 hours total. Agree only attempt in dry conditions and with very good fitness and navigation skills.

    Great trail John!

I found water in a seasonal stream, 150m WNW from Lizard Point Campsite. Unreliable, especially in dry conditions but always worth a check to top up from.
