Itinerary description
Mt Walsh is a prominent landmark in the Biggenden area. Steep forested slopes, sheltered gullies, rugged ridge lines and mountain areas with spectacular exposed granite outcrops and cliffs support an amazing diversity of vegetation.
The track involves a combination of rock scrabbling, rock climbing and slope hiking. The track is very exposed and subject to extreme heat during most months of the year so it is better to do early morning or in winter.
The start point is about 11km from the town of Biggenden along National Park Rd off the Maryborough/Biggenden road. The carpark at the start of the hike has a toilet and a water tank.
The initial part of the hike is quite mild and slowly climbs before you hit a long area of exposed rock scrambling. You follow this up before you hit a climbing area. Taken slowly you follow the tape marked track up the mountain. There is one difficult section which requires you to have some upper body strength or help.
The top of the mountain has many trails to viewing platforms over the many facets of this mountain. This trail tracks to a few of them.
