Itinerary description
This walk follows the old railway line from Garrucha towards Bedar and returns the same track. Very easy, flat track outward. After lunch a "loop" through the campo with a few short climbs. A beginning of season starter walk to get those muscles working again!

Ruta agradable por los campos de Almería, para todos los niveles y fácil de seguir. Preferiblemente evitar en verano, porque no hay ni una sombra.

Did this trail on 31/01/2023 the day after we had some rain - very muddy in parts! We started from Lidl in Garrucha using Wikiloc on my Android mobile. The app worked perfectly and the MWG route was easy to follow. However in the 13 years since the walk was done there have been some changes regarding the construction of the Almeria-Vera High Speed rail link. Ironic that this route follows an old railway line that is now intersected by a new one.....
We followed the route guidance easily until we got to about 100m short of the railway, where the route indicated 'straight-on'. This was not possible as a new house plus fenced off grounds was in the way. We could see two underpasses and we chose the left side on and walked through a field or two - all covered in excavated dirt from the railway cutting. About 300m from the railway line was the 'bullet hole building' where we had lunch sitting next to the old reservoir.
We then proceeded to the turning point at the end of the loop, this again needed some diversions from the route as there was again evidence of materials from the new railway construction altering the landscape. On the return route it was clear that farmers have expanded their fields as it was not possible to walk on the old tracks as they were ploughed up, but you could work out where they were by following newish concrete marker posts. These posts were only on the return route, the outward route had wooden marker posts with faded maps/info but the number 5 still visible.
AS MWG said, this is not a difficult route, the outward track follows a disused railway line so is fairly level. It is more challenging on the return route as you do a lot of climbing and descending, but nothing too steep. My advice - don't do it the day after rainfall as it is muddy.
