Itinerary description

From the parking place adjacent to the official one of the Nerja Cave parking follow the white/red signposted GR 242 to Frigiliana. The open landscape that you start in with views of Nerja, the Mediterreanean and the mountain tops in the Sierra de Tejeda changes dramatically as soon as you descend into the canyon.

The track through the canyon is impressive, with its caves and high, sheer rockwalls. This part of the walk is about 2.5 km long and at the end the track ascends to the broad track of the GR 242 which you will follow back to the starting point.

About 500 metres before you arrive at the parking place you will see a small signpost of the Sendero Cueva de Nerja-Almijara which track will lead you up to the Mirador de Nerja right above the Nerja Caves. This track is slightly more challenging but will reward you with beautiful views of Maro and Nerja and the coast from Cerro Gordo to Torrox Costa.
