Itinerary description
Hike from Björkliden to the peak of Mt Njulla above Abisko Canyon, with views over Abisko, Lapporten and Torneträsk
The path starts at the parking lot next to the Björkliden Ski lodge. From there several paths lead down the slope and across the bridge over river Rakkasjohka. After passing several ski pistes, it descends again to the Gohpasjohka river valley. From the bridge crossing, the path gently climbs up the valley, passing rapids and waterfalls of Gohpasjohka. At some point the path becomes a bit steeper until it reaches the plateau below the peak.
From the plateau we just headed up the hill, towards the peak of Njulla. That part wasn't marked like the rest of the trail (red dots on the rocks), but it was completely manageable thanks to the relatively dry week before, so the ground wasn't very boggy. In case of rain, I guess it would be better to avoid this shortcut, and simply continue forward across the plateau, until the marked path that leads from Aurora Sky Station to the peak of Njulla is reached.
The views from the peak are incredible, especially towards the Lapporten and other mountains still covered in snow.
