Itinerary description

Third week of September in the Rendalen villmark: autumn foliage is at its peak and I make a 2 day – 50 km solo hiking & packrafting tour of the Sølna river. I start in picturesque Fiskevollen on the shores of lake Sølensjøen, and then gradually move north by packraft and on foot to the location where I take to the water of the meandering Sølna river, in order to paddle back south.

Hi! Nice trip with the packraft . I am thinking of going there from Sweden the first of October. Do you have any tips, is the water flow good in the river? Regards Mårten

    Hi Mårten,

You may want to read through my report, if you haven't done so yet:

Yes seen your page, magic pictures :)..I wonder if it is shallow water and if it is possible to paddle without problems all the way back to Fiskevollen in the autumn? Also wondering if you have an idea if you can go further up one where you went, how is the water there?

We have 3.5 days to hike and paddle and thought the place you had visited was nice. It is also easy to decide for yourself when you want to paddle back. You seem to have been and paddled in Norway a lot, do you have any other tips where you can do similar, get up or paddle back. Or is Fiskvollen the best. :)

Last year I was in vadvetjåkka, I recommend it to you :)

    Have a nice day

    Sincerely

    Mårten

When I was there, one could paddle from the bridge at Storlegda down to Fiskevollen. With good water levels, it should be possible to also paddle sections of Speka, upstream from Storlegda (e.g. starting from Spekedalssetra). I doubt this would have been possible when I was there though, although I did not check explicitly.

Difficult to say what conditions will be like when you go, but in any case, there doesn't seem to be much precipitation in the forecast. If there would be insufficient water at Storlegda, then you could try putting in at Skjellavollen.

Mistra is another nice river in the Rendalen area. It is more challenging though than Solna, as more navigating between rocks is required, especially in autumn when water is low. In the Rondane area Atna and Grimse can be recommended. Finally, there is also the entire Femundsmarka / Rogen area that is good for lake hopping.

    Hey!

we are on our way by car to Fiskevollen. I'm trying to find some information about if the road has a barrier and if it's open but can't find anything. do you know if that road is closed?

have a nice day and thanks for the help.

    Hi Mårten,

The road has a toll gate and should be open (I know someone who drove to Fiskevollen last week).

I actually did Sølna again myself on Saturday, with a strenuous, largely off-trail return hike across the fjells on Sunday (great weather on both days). This time, I did not start in Fiskevollen, but took the road to Storlegda and put in at the bridge. Due to low water levels, the ride was quite bumpy.

    Cheers,

    Filip

Thanks for the help! We took Mistra 20km south and went back. We had storms and rain but it didn't matter so we wore the dry suit. Mistra was really fun. We are coming back. Thanks for any help
