Itinerary description

Directions: Nyjordet bussholdeplass - Elgtråket - Turvei E16 - Bjørndal gård - Burudveien - Nebbejordet - Hauketo gård - Turvei E15 - Burud gård - Solkollen - Siriåsen - Seterbråten - Bjørndal senter - Nyjordet bussholdeplass

The first stage of this route goes from Nyjordet bus stop in Bjørndal to Hauketo farm. Afterwards it continues by small forest paths across Grønliåsen until finding the fire place at Solkollen. In the last stage, we return to the starting point.

The route starts at Nyjordet bus stop, in the neighbourhood of Bjørndal. Take the side walk up Bjørnåsveien until Elgtråket. After walking approximately 200 meters down the street, turn to the left. Here you can either take the loop appearing on the map, or walk right ahead across the vehicle barrier and turn to the right at the end of the street. Either way, you will find a narrow path with stairs between the houses that will take you down to the E16 trail. Cross the wooden bridge over Bjørndalsbekken and follow the paved trail in direction to Ljabruveien. At the confluence between Seterbråtbekken and Bjørndalsbekken, just in front of the Bjørndal farm's granary, you may notice a small waterfall. Cross the bridge over Bjørndalsbekken shortly after and take Burudveien heading to the northwest. This path will lead you to the floodlit trail at Grønliåsen. At the bottom of the downhill slope to the right, Oldtidsveien crosses the trail just where an information panel is located. Turn to the right at this point and follow the blue marked trail. You will pass by the Nebbejordet bus stop and continue on the path around the houses until Øvre Prinsdal vei. You will find Hauketo farm down the street. This farm, which belonged to the royalty in the XVII century, is located just by the former main route from Christiania (Oslo) to København (Copenhagen), 'Den Fredrikshaldske kongeveien'.

In the second part of the route, we will try to find the fireplace Solkollen at Grønliåsen. Continue down Øvre Prinsdal vei to the E15 trail from Hauketo to Gjersrudtjern. Few meters before the zebra crossing close to Mortensrudveien, you will find a signal pointing to the forest with the text 'Turområdet Grønliåsen 0,7 km'. Follow the path starting by the signal between the industrial park at Bjørnerud and the Nebbejordet neighbourhood. This path was formerly a blue marked trail, but most of the marks have faded away. You will pass by the Nebbejordet bee farm (keep your distance from the hives!). Go through the tunnel under Bjørnerudveien and take the way southwards in direction to Burud farm. A path starts just on the northeastern corner of the property with a southeastern course. If you follow it, you will end up at the floodlit trail at Grønliåsen. After a few meters, take the path raising to the left, which continues southwards, west from Oldtidsveien, the blue marked trail. There are many small paths across Grønliåsen running in parallel in this area and it may be difficult to choose which one to take. As a rule of thumb, choose always the widest one. You will cross the floodlit trail again after walking for about 8-9 minutes. Continue on the path for another 10 minutes (approximately 750-800 meters), before turning to the left over a swampy area, drawing a loop until finding another relatively wide path heading to the north on the other side of Oldtidsveien. You will soonly arrive to Solkollen, a popular meeting point for the local folk living around Grønliåsen.

The third and last stage of the route goes back to the starting point. Take a path to the northeast of Solkollen until the closer ski trail heading northwards. It will lead you to the floodlit trail at Grønliåsen by Siriåsen. Downhill you will arrive to the crossroads between the trails at Grønliåsen and Bjørndal. As you take the latter, you will pass by a birch forest around Seterbråtbekken, and the cabin of the Buddhist temple in Bjørndal, which you may spot on the other side of the nearest street. Before coming out of the forest, you will find a bench with 'Østmarka' carved on it (although Grønliåsen is actually part of Sørmarka). You should find your way between the houses in Bjørndal until the bridge over Slimeveien to Bjørndal center. Turn to the left and walk across the Granberg neighbourhood. As you approach to the end of the route, you will pass by the Christian church of Bjørndal, shortly before crossing the street to get to the Nyjordet bus stop.
