Once parked the car in Ornica, I traversed the Valle dell'Inferno and reached the Bocchetta dell'Inferno. Up to this point, the path is only uphill; in addition, the valley is oriented southward and there are no trees, so prepare against the sun and the heat. From the pass, I followed a narrow and sometimes steep path to rifugio FALC and, after a brief break, turned East and traversed the Diga dell'Inferno. The track to Lago di Trona is not always signalled and can be engaging. After reaching the lake, however, it becomes clearly visible and simpler, until Lago Zancone. Between this last lake and Passo Bocca di Trona, expect a steep and rocky ascent. Once on the top, you'll be facing Val Pianella and Val Salmurano: take the trail on the right, passing next to the ruins of a baita and a dried-out pond. It leads onto and beyond a hill, down into Val Pianella. At a certain moment, cross the stream from W to E and head South, along the East side of Val Salmurano. After a while, cross the stream again, this time from E to W, and keep following the path, staying on the West side of Val Salmurano. You'll eventually reach Ornica and your car. I want to highlight the difficulties of this excursion. You don't need special equipment to do it, as a good pair of hiking boots and trekking poles should suffice, but it is exhausting if you are not used to mountaineering.
