Itinerary description
maybe the most beautiful sceneries in a hike in lebanon but one of the most challenging also.
it was a solo hike, i parked near the power plant in mazraat en nahr, i asked the permission from the guy in the plant to climb the stairs and he was very friendly.
the first part of the hike is climbing the 1200 stairs adjacent to the water pipes that feed the canal, the stairs are built during the french mandate, they are very steep and really require a very good physical level. on top i reached a small man made lake with very nice views, after reaching the top i walked for a couple of kms on the water canal, till reaching the exit of the underground tunnel, from there i had to walk on a bit challenging way for a couple of km, till meeting the proper trails of the valley.
reaching them i first visited the hawka hermitage that is closed right now after hermit dario escobar was moved to kozhaya monastery, after that i came back to the trail that reaches our lady of annoubine monastery and visiting st marina church on the way where many of maronite patriarches are burried,
i had a break at annoubine monastery and from there the second new part of the valley for me started, i took the remote trail from the monastery back to the town of mazraat en nahr, i went down to the river, crossed the small bridge and climbed back up on the other side of the valley, this trail was new for me, il is really beautiful and remote, i discovered the magic of annoubine, the sceneries are amazing and beyond description, approaching mazraat en nahr the trail goes rapidly down back to the starting point
