Bellver Castle is built in the Mallorcan Gothic style, at the beginning of the 14th century, between the years 1300 and 1310, by order of King James II of Mallorca. It is located on a green hill 112 meters above sea level, in an area surrounded by forest.
Being built to house the royal court of James II of Mallorca, its structure combines palatial needs with defensive elements. Bellver has a circular plan design with attached circular towers. The Tower of Homenaje is linked to the central body by a flying passageway. The round profile and its main tower, which can be seen from many points in Palma, also house the History Museum of the city of Palma. It is worth climbing the castle just to contemplate this panoramic view, but also for the construction itself, the only circular castle in Spain, one of the few in Europe and the oldest of its type. Bellver forest with a surface of 126 hectares is the largest public space in Palma. The origin of its name "beautiful view" gives a clue of what to see from the castle, spectacular views of the Bay of Palma, Palma city and the Tramuntana Mountains.
