Itinerary description
Palma Santanyí railway, in the stretch between Arenal and Llucmajor. This railway was open in 1916 and closed in 1964, when the PMI airport and the Highway were built.
It started in Plaza de España, and after 600 meters side by side with the Palma Inca Railway, it turned to the right, following the old Pont D' Inca tramway. Then Es Coll d'en Rabassa, Can Pastilla (apeadero) , Ses Fontanelles (apeadero) , Es Pillarí (Apeadero), Arenal, Llucmajor, Campos, Baños de San Juan, Ses Salines, Es Llombards (apeadero), finishing at Santanyí.
The stretch followed today, it was the most techinal in the whole railway, gaining more than 100 meters elevation from Arenal train station to Llucmajor, in around 15km.
This railway was used at most to transport vacationers to Arenal Beach, and sandstone from the quarries to Palma.
