Pantano del Chorro – Fuente de las Higueras
This lovely circular shaded walk (90% shade) starts from a parking area on the MA9006, a minutes’ drive from the Pantano del Chorro dam.
The paths are in peaceful woodlands. The route actually circles the Necropolis (which I plan to redo in a few weeks time).
There is one section (at 2.1km) where you have to go uphill for 5 minutes following the arroyo, but there is a faint path here, so it’s not a problem.
When you get to the Fuente de las Higueras area there are lovely views of the Guadalteba Reservoir, Sierra Peñarrubia and Teba with its castle, slightly to your left.
Eventually at (7.6km) you have to climb an embankment (the trail is faint but visible) and eventually you make your way down to the Necropolis dirt track road, which will take you back to the start.
A great peaceful walk with a few small minor challenges, but the panoramic views are really worth it. Especially the views of the Conde del Guadalhorce Reservoir and Ardales in the background are breath taking, and a great spot for a picnic or break.
