Itinerary description
Terrific easy hike from the Parque all the way down to San Juan, although there is an option to cut it shorter and take public transport back down to the lake from Santa Clara. It is about 2 hours or less to that point.
To get to the Parque you can take a colectivo van from Santa Clara for 5q/person. To get to Santa Clara from San Pablo you can take a colectivo van or ride in the back of a pickup (also 5q each). Less frequent chicken buses also ply these routes. San Pablo is a 10q tuk tuk from either San Juan or San Marcos.
Hiking directions:
From Parque it is easy to follow except one spot where a small trail heads down and to the right, stay left to go around the ridge and eventually reach town past the garbage dump.
You can either leave Santa Clara by road like we did or turn right at the cemetery and follow that along a trail through some fields that eventually meets up with the road.
After climbing the only hill (on the road now), take the 3rd path off to the left across the fields to reach the ridge. From there it is always left whenever you have a choice, until you reach the bottom of the hill and just before town the trail splits, take a right here.
