Beautiful route within the Triglav National Park, the only one in Slovenia, a country with 60% of the territory covered by forests, a third within the Natura 2000 network and 10% protected by the figure of a natural park. A paradise for nature lovers.
The Vintgar Gorge is one of the most popular visits in Slovenia, a walk suitable for all audiences through an area of great beauty. The gorge itself comprises about 1,600 m. along the route, mostly by wooden walkways through a magnificent environment, where the Radovna River has been excavating a canyon with walls between 50 and 100 m. high, covered by a dense forest with abundant deciduous trees. We find both backwaters and rapids and waterfalls, the largest of them the Cascada Sum, which we can see before entering the ticket offices that are in the NE part, where we accessed it although most visitors usually enter from the other side, the SW.
In order to make a circular route when leaving we took a path that surrounds the mountain, with extraordinary views of the valley and the Julian Alps and that passes by the small Church of Santa Katarina. In front of the church there is a bar where you can eat and have a good beer at wooden tables and benches in the shade of the trees. A very nice place.
From here we take a path that goes into a beautiful forest with large fir trees and that ends at the bridge next to the Sum Waterfall, from where we will take the path back to the car.
