Itinerary description

The less busy route to the top of Pedraforca from the village of Gósol and back the same way. I have marked this as difficult due to a mixture of the climb of more than 1,000 metres and the track - much of it is across loose rock and scree slopes, with a fair amount of scrambling. I strongly recommend taking trekking poles for the descent.

For more details and waypoints please reference this track which we followed:

Starting from the (free) parking in Gósol you follow the obvious gravel path toward Pedraforca curving to the right, which enters the woods and winds steeply upward. You emerge from the woods on to the ridge which eventually culminates in the peak of the Pollegó Superior and the summit. The route strikes diagonally across the scree slope heading toward the Enforcadura, or dip between the two peaks.

You strike out on the gravelly path marked by the yellow-and-white flashes which are not always obvious. At this point on the ascent we lost the path and headed too high up. The correct path is the LOWER one marked on the GPS - please be careful here and follow the lower route or otherwise there is a nasty descent of 10 metres or so on loose rock.

Then it is a steady climb heading diagonally across the slope, with a particularly sharp final 100 metres or so to the top of the Enforcadura - a good place to catch your breath at the top and enjoy the views on the other side and back toward Gosól.

On your left it is very likely you will see hikers descending amid the tumble of rocks of the Pollegó Superior that take you to the summit. You have to use your hands and scramble your way up for about another 100 metres, paying attention to those descending, but it's not particularly difficult for anyone in good physical condition.

Enjoy the views from the top and then head back down the same way. Once in Gosól, we found the Hostal Cal Francisco opposite the parking area had a nice terrace at the back which was open on a Sunday for a well-earned drink.
