Pedres d'Auló

A short but very rewarding hike to what is now a beautiful location but which in May 1938 was the scene of ferocious fighting between Republican and Francoist forces.

The route starts from a small parking area about 2km from the Port Ainé ski station. About 1km from Rialp just after the river bridge turn right and follow the signs to Por Ainé. About 1.8km before the ski station there's a small parking area on the right with the trail signposted, "Pedres d'Auló". From there follow the track for 100 metres and follow the trail down to the right. The trail is well marked and simple to follow.

Quite soon you'll see the remains of machine gun emplacements next to the path and a little further on what is left of the trenches. Many of the trenches are marked with small posts painted yellow at the top. The remains of bomb and mortar craters are marked by posts with red paint.

There is an informational panel which provides some background to the fighting that took place here in the Spring of 1938.

Walking around the area provides a sombre juxtaposition of the terrible loss of life and the beauty of nature.

Una breu però molt gratificant caminada cap al que avui és un bonic lloc però que el maig de 1938 va ser escenari de ferotges lluites entre forces republicanes i franquistes.

La ruta comença des d'una petita zona d'aparcament a uns 2 km de l'estació d'esquí de Port Ainé. A uns 1 km de Rialp just després del pont del riu gireu a la dreta i seguiu les indicacions cap a Por Ainé. Uns 1,8 km abans de l'estació d'esquí hi ha un petit aparcament a la dreta amb la pista senyalitzada "Pedres d'Auló". A partir d'aquí seguim la pista durant 100 metres i seguim la pista que baixa a la dreta. El camí està ben senyalitzat i fàcil de seguir.

Ben aviat veureu restes d'emplaçaments de metralladores al costat del camí i una mica més enllà el que queda de les trinxeres. Moltes de les trinxeres estan senyalitzades amb petits pals pintats de groc a la part superior. Les restes de cràters de bombes i morter estan marcades per pals amb pintura vermella.

Hi ha un panell informatiu que proporciona alguns antecedents dels combats que van tenir lloc aquí a la primavera de 1938.

Caminar per la zona ofereix una juxtaposició sombria de la terrible pèrdua de vides i la bellesa de la natura.
