Itinerary description
The Colca Canyon is the second deepest canyon in the world, with views that take your breath away. The climate is quite dry with few shadows so be sure to take enough water with you. Take also energy bars. You will have to pay a fee to be allowed to hike the canyon, though I was never asked for any document whatsoever during the whole tour. I did it alone with the help of my Garmin GPSMAP64 but without following any downloaded trail. It was not difficult to understand which way to go, getting seldom off track. The experience is absolutely amazing and not dangerous if you are fit and take reasonable precautions. I never felt threatened in any way by the strangers who once in a while crossed my way.
The tour was divided in three days:
1. Cabanaconde - Tapay
2. Tapay - Llahuar Lodge
3. Llahuar Lodge - Cabanaconde
The last day was the most difficult with an incredible never ending ascent where my legs literally gave away quite a few times. What an amazing three days!
