Itinerary description

PH#1. Sheri Village from Wadi Naqab, RAK.

My personal FB Page dedicated to UAE Hiking.
https://www.facebook.com/Patricks-Hikes-101251445547970

It is a well marked trail with stone markers Cairns all the way, keep looking for them every few meters and do not remove or destroy them, they are required for other hikers.

Even Sedan cars can be brought as close as possible to the Trailhead and it will save you from Flat Wadi walking. But some ground clearnace is needed.

The best parking space for all cars is about as below.
25.715300, 56.113984

The Wadi has nice section of Picturesque Flat Polished White Boulders, Polished round Boulders, Raw big Rocks and then Manmade donkey path with cemented rocky stairs that are very helpful for Stability.

There is a Big Cave known as Bat Cave somewhere at the midpoint of the Hike in the left side. I have previously climbed into it, but didn't explore it much. Some weird animal shout was heard that time. The climb to the Cave is bit tricky, take care and be safe.

This Hike is the best to gain an elevation of 600+ meters over a short distance, Beautiful Narrow Wadis and nice view from the top.

The Sheri village at the top is small and neat. The stone houses are beautiful.
Please do not dirty or open any houses / compounds fences.
When we hiked we found some farm hands who were working there.
There are lots of terrace farms that can be used as ideal camping grounds.

Please do not litter the place and take all your trash with you.

There are lots of options to extend the hike from the summit village of Sheri.
With proper planning and preparations, You could hike up all the way to Difan village / Wadi Sidaqa, Wadi Taween, Yibir mountain or to Baqal village and back to Wadi Naqab.

Be safe, prepare well, Do not over estimate and enjoy your moments in the middle of nowhere.
Take back all your rubbish with you.

Do Not Try Any Mountain Hikes If You Do Not Understand The Mountain Terrains, Dangers From Wildlife, First Aid, Hydration And Snacks, Your Own Fitness, Remote Activity Preparations, Communication Tools, Mountain Geography, Topography, Risk Factors, HSE Requirements, Hiking Risks, Fitness Level Of The Group Members.
Study All Above Matters Well Before Following Any Trails That You Find Online. Please Do Not Over Estimate Yourself.
Better Be Safe Than Put Yourself / Group In Danger And Regret Later.
Lately We Have Seen A Lot Of Unwanted Hiking Incidents That Could Have Been Avoided With Better Preparation.
Wish You All The Best.

Hi Patrick! I haven’t been on this hike for almost a year now.

If I’m not mistaken we need to let a person who is in-charge of this area know that we are planning to visit this hike along with our full names and time of visit. And then message on the day of e arrive and then when we leave too.

    Is this still the case?

As far as I know, For non commercial hikes, by friends in small groups, I think this rule doesn't apply.
In any case, at every popular hiking spots, the instructions are posted on a billboard.

    Hi there,

The Wadi Naqab offroad to access the trailhead may be damaged here and there.

In my recording the hike start point is close to the trailhead.

Usually the Wadi Naqab road is in good condition till here, even with rains effect.

    https://maps.app.goo.gl/EpwbDhmqZMWcYUty8

If the Wadi offroad is damaged, then you may have to walk additional 2 kms each way.

You may have to walk about 2 kms one way from here for your hike start point, if the road is not good enough.

The boulders on the damaged road can really damage the underside of the low clearance vehicles

Hi Patrick,I did the hike yesterday with my for your instructions🙏🙏🙏.I wanted to ask you if there is another way to go down from Sheri village once you’ve reached the summit.

    Hi there,

It depends where you want to descend to from Sheri village, although the same way up and down to Naqab is the best and safest one.

From Sheri village, there are trails upwards (higher) which lead to Wadi Taween and Yibir mountain, but it will end up to be a one way long hike. You will need logistics.

Generally, most hikers either hike to Sheri village and return the same way back OR extend the hike to Samarat, Kanan and Difan villages as needed.

    Hope this helps.
