Waypoints
Photo
From upper parking follow the Stony dirt road uphill north by power lines and go past a barrier
Photo
After ten min trail bends 180 degrees back on itself. Stick to this Rd for longer but easier trail otherwise go straight ahead onto footpath through forest and bike traxk
Photo
Steep trail through pine forest with fleeting glimpses of lake below. Pass under power lines and Carey on up
Photo
After 50min reach Rd and cross straight over back into forest and climb hard. I can also follow Rd for longer and more gentle climb
Photo
At 1625m and hr quarter from start leave forest onto steep pastures and bend around flank of hill to west (left) and climb gently under power lines
Photo
After a few min trail goes through a little gap and onto a larger pasture with Rd again visible
Photo
Heading now towards blue cable car station turn around for a marvelous view of pic du midi
Photo
Pass a small shepherd cabin next to a ski lift and on right (true left) of stream carry in up towards cable car station
Photo
Come to Rd by the cable car station and seasonal panoramic restaurant and turn right and then bend left heading below the yellow train station
Photo
Right and then immediately left to cut corner off Rd to arrive actually at train station
Photo
Hundred metres before westerly building where track makes a light u bend there's a broken wall and immediately past this turn right by sign for orientation table and a final few min climb
Photo
From the ridge the very last two min is a little exposed for anyone without a head for heights. Don't do it on a windy, wet or icy day
Photo
For the rtn it's more comfy and a change of view to just follow the road all the way
Photo
Don't automatically take all footpaths cutting down off Rd because one leads down onto a totally different trail so only take those where u can see where it rejoins Rd!
Photo
The part where u first crossed Rd on way up is worth taking though because otherwise it's a long sweep through the forest
