Itinerary description

Leaving the car parking at Hospice de France. Trail well marked through the valley. Looks very imposing when first seen but the climb is steady and not too steep, well pronounced zig zag. Views are amazing looking down behind as you climb. Pass over two streams/waterfalls. Then a false summit is seen and old Sheppard's hut in bad repair, few hundred Mts and reach Refuge de Venasque, perfect lunch stop in front of the lakes.. (Booms du porte), trail passes left of refuge and climbs to the small pass at Port de Venasque.. Stunning views across into Spain. In front is Aneto. Small decent and trail non GR or PR is on the right, few markers or Cairns, rocks are quite flat in places and care to be taken.. Not advisable in wet conditions.. After 100 MTRs there is steel rope to aid as quite small and steep path.. Zig zag continues and last few mtrs hand hold is needed.. Summit views over both valleys.. Return same way and care to be taken.
