Pico Cabrilla, (Cerro de la Blanquilla), Casarabonela
Passing Casarabonela on the MA 5401, drive to Puerto Martinez, then take the BTT sendero (bicycle route) on your left (to Jorox) for 7.7Km.
There is some off road parking in several places near the start of the walk.
The Jorox bike route is narrow in some places, but you get very little traffic on this trail.
This is a lovely, slightly challenging walk. An out and back route.
If looking from the coast inland towards Casarabonela, Sierra Cabrilla is the mountain range to the left of Sierra Prieta.
Take the path with the signpost and make your way to Puerto Madera. Here take the second turning on your left (going around the back of the mountain).
The path is narrow and overgrown in places. There are some Pinsapo pines overhanging the path. There is also a lot of very prickly Cade Juniper bushes.
I would highly recommend wearing long trousers for this route, as you will definitely get your legs cut and scratched wearing shorts.
Make your way up to a fence/gate (an area being repopulated) to the next fence/gate. Please keep them closed when you go through them.
Eventually you get to a mountain pass with Sierra Prieta on your left and Alozania in front of you, and Yunquera to your right. From here the path is hard to find in places. There are cairns so keep a lookout for them.
From here there are a lot of zig*zags and the climb is steeper. There is a Plato area you cross with limestone rocks and lots of grass. There are two small summits here. The one with the cross is 1501m and the second to the right 1503m above sea level.
There are amazing views from the summit, namely Sierra Prieta, Torecilla, El Burgo and Sierra Alcarapain.
This is a great hike of about 4 ½ - 5 hours and well worth the trip to Casarabonela.
