Itinerary description
This peak at the North of Estepona gives a really impressive view on the Costa del Sol, Gibraltar and, with bright weather, on the north-coast of Africa. OK, you can reach the peak also by car, but the sensation of having that view after you climbed "the bastard" is much, much nicer. Moreover, the route goes through woods of Pinsapos (Spanish Fir) which is an evergreen tree native and originary from the Andalusian mountains.
The route starts at Puerto de las Peñas Blancas where you will find enough parking space to leave your car. First you will have to follow the road until you pass a little bridge in a sharp curve of the road. There you take a trail that starts at your left hand side. Follow the trail till the Plazoleta de los Pinsapos. From their follow the sign "Sendero de Realillos" which will bring you to the Collado de Cerro de Castellón. Then follow the trail on your left which will bring you - with one final nasty climb - to the Pico de los Reales. Have a seat and enjoy the view!! The descent is long but easy via the road.
In summertime, take enough liquid with you, because until Refugio Agustín Lozano you will not find one single drop of water. And you will need it when climbing in the burning Andalucian sun...
