Itinerary description

It is astonishingly beautiful trail that takes you from the base camp of Teide till the very top of it, to the upper cable car station and then to the peak Teide.

[IMPORTANT] before starting the trail please check the weather at Teide here:

https://www.volcanoteide.com/en/how-s-the-weather-on-mt-teide-today#weather-anchor

You should look if the cable car is open. If it is close, it means that the weather is not suitable and thus the hiking routes are also not recommended. The Peak Teide is closed and there is no possibility to use the cable car in any direction. Please take it into the account before start.

[IMPORTANT] it is one way trail only in ascending direction. For the descending direction it is recommended to go by another side of the Vulcan.

[IMPORTANT] the access to the Peak Teide is limited and you need to request a permission in advance (2-3 month at least), otherwise this part of the trail will be not available for you. Here you can reserve the date:

https://www.reservasparquesnacionales.es/real/parquesnac/usu/html/detalle-actividad-oapn.aspx?cen=2&act=1

Please, note that you can book a time interval for 2 hours during the day: 9-11, 11-13, 13-15 or 15-17. Then you have to be at the upper station at the indicated interval. Thus, plan your hiking according to the reservation you have: if it is in the morning, then it make sense to have ascending cable car and then access peak and go down by walk.

In our case we had access at 15-17, thus we did hike first, started at 10.30. The duration of hiking is approx 5.30 hours, we did it in 3.5.
I HARDLY RECOMMEND TO HAVE 5.30 HOURS in order not to be in a rush. The hiking is difficult, and sue to the high altitude it can provoke aritmia and strong pulse.

[IMPORTANT] If you want to use cable car to go up or down, I recommend to buy ticket in advance. It is for any hour and can be easy returned if need.
Here you can buy it:

https://www.volcanoteide.com/en/volcano_teide/teide_cable_car/teide_cable_car

[IMPORTANT] Parking slots are very limited near the start of the trail. You need to come early to get one. Please keep in mind that it is 2.5 km distance from the base camp, where the cable car leaves you, thus you will need to add 2.5 km walk by the highway to your car.

Good luck!
