Itinerary description
The last part of the trip, when I was down from Pico, and walking downunder Levada dos Piornais, and could see how the Levada was buildet for many many years ago, it was interesting.
In 2002 I was hiking that part of Levada dos Piornais, where there are railing and small caves to go through.
Very nice hike, and secured with railings.
If you want to walk a part of Levada dos Piornais, you can start in Funchal behind the Stadium "Estádio dos Barreiros", it's the easy part, you will go behind Funchal city, and look out the sea, (look at the video on this side), on that stretching you can get down to the town a lot of places.
Every time I am on Madeira, I walk this stretching, very nice.

Levada dos Piornais is a very nice hike, but a little bit strenuous, I was hiking it in 2002 (before I got my GPS, so no track). On my track today you see, I am crossing “Levada dos Piornais", as you see on my photos, I am going below the Levada - and I found a video on You Tube, so you can see, the hike on the secure part of "Levada dos Piornais" – very good. 09-10-2017
