Itinerary description
The amount of altitude metres of this walk is not 654 as you see on this page to the righ but is more or less 400.
Following the A-404 coming from Alhaurin de la Torre and Pinos de Alhaurin we took a small road to the left that takes you to the Club de Tiro de Jarapalo.
We parked our car where the road to the shooting club turns to the left but there is even more space to park your car if you go up the road a further couple of hundreds of metres .
Coming to the fork of two broad tracks we took the fork to the right and followed this for about two kilometres. A very pleasant part of the walk in the cool shadows of the pines. Passing a gate we took, soon after, a small and narrow track to the left that is clearly regularly used by very experienced mountainbikers going down. Fortunately we didn't meet any on this part of our walk.
This is a wonderful part of the track that takes you into the Tajo de Las Montesas from 300 to 700 metres and goes up relatively gently at first but becomes steeper and steeper, all the time, remaining very pleasant to follow and giving you regularly glimpses of the higher track that you are aiming for to the left.
At a height of more or less 625 metres you will come upon a broad track, used by many mountainbikers, and going to the left you will see a path to your right shortly after and a big information panel of the Arboretum. This track will lead you to a very nice picknick place, a big field with wonderful views of the Malaga plain and the hills and mountains to the north with a very recently buit forest house.
After the picknick we went back to the broad track and then followed this back to our car. This is a very scenic part of the walk as it goes gently down for some three kilometres giving you unimpeded and extended views of the countryside. After a few bends in the track you will have a great view of Malaga and its bay and the coastline towards Nerja.
Even when the track gets back into the pines again there will be nice views almost all the way back to the starting point.
