Pizarra – Zalea – Cerralba Circuit
This walk is a circular route linking these three villages.
Two of the routes are established Senderos – The SL-A 211 Cerralba to Pizarra and the SL-A 212 Zalea to Cerralba.
This walk didn’t pan out how I would have liked because the river Guadalhorce was over flowing and the current was too strong. I tried to cross it in several places but decided it wasn’t safe enough.
Probably the best time to do it would be around September / October, before the next lot of rain.
Use crappy trainers for this walk as you have to cross several streams – Arroyo de los Cañas and Arroyo Casarabonela.
I doubled back and went onto the A357 for a short distance to pick up a shortcut onto Villalón road, where at the end of the junction turning left brings you back into Pizarra.
Apart from not being able to cross the river (which I have done before), the other downside is having to use the A343 road (Pizarra to Zalea), but there are many places where you can use the gravel on the side of the road. There is one narrow section crossing over the bridge, which does have several indents and I did use a visibility Jerkin.
Arriving at Zalea you turn left onto the Pista Confederación (MA 9023).
This circuit passes a lot of lemon groves and the scent of the blossom was lovely. There was also a lot of colour from the plants at the side of the paths.
I will recap, you will get your feet wet if it has recently rained, then you will have to go around the longer way.
I will reattempt this route in the autumn.
