Waypoints
Photo
Path delves in and out of for tree woodland and alongside streams rising in altitude so gently you're unlikely to notice
Photo
After ten min pass hospital de benasque on right and walk happily through summer cattle pastures
Photo
At end of plain cross stream via wooden bridge and head slowly upward into thicker woodland following gr trail
Photo
OPP side of river is road that shuttle bus uses in summer to la besurta. Area walking through now has many damaged and dead first knocked down by winter avalanche
Photo
Cross alongside wide glacial valley that in spring can be a lake but by late summer often has just a small pool left in corner. By now path climbs only very gently
Photo
After fifty metres veer onto footpath to right of road and cross an open valley
Photo
Just under hr half and after crossing plain and climbing small ridge come to la besurta where shuttle buses stop and there's a cafe. Ow the walk gets really busy in summer at least. Follow trail toward renclusa refuge
Photo
The hard to loose path goes up past streams on a paved stone track. Mome TS later meet an important signed junction. For the loop walk you can go either way. We describe it in anti clockwise route going past refuge and over pass first. In which case go right at the junction and climb steadily uphill
Photo
Short sharp climb from valley floor to refuge 200m higher up with a view of waterfall as you near top
Photo
Refuge renclusa at 2140m. Set in a huge rock bowl down which cascades sheets of water
Photo
From beside refuge is a junction. Head left toward a thumb of rock to the souuth
Photo
At base of hill from pass turn right at signed junction and head south and around western edge of meadow with its serpentine streams
Photo
Sticking carefully to footpath so as not to damage bog follow it around crossing log bridges until U reach the waterfalls
Photo
100m further on is the hole down which river disappears to burrow under mountains and reemerge in France as the baby Garonne
Photo
Now simply follow the almost totally flat trail back down the valley over sheep pastures in a nnw direction
