Itinerary description
Pont de Gerlon (1592m) - Col des Saulces (2456m) - Petit Mont Blanc (2675m) - Col du Mône (2533m) - Les Prioux (1716m).
Rated difficult hiking as the ~3km trail up to Col des Saulces gains elevation at about 300m/km…quite a sustained steep climb. Well-marked, clear path and beautiful, varied landscape and abundance of wildflowers.
Petit Mont Blanc owes its name to the white color of its rounded top due to the abundance of gypsum rock. Stunning panoramic views from the summit facing the Grande Casse (3,855 m), the Vanoise and Pointe du Dard glaciers (3,206 m), the Dôme de Chasseforêt, the Dôme de l'Arpont.
A popular summit for good reason, though the ascent via the Col des Saulces is definitely less populated than the standard route up from Les Prioux.
