Itinerary description
This trail follows to large extent the north-eastern part of Grande Rota das Flores (waymarked red-white) from Ponta Ruiva to Fazenda, with great views along the coast. Detailed description available at:

In Aug 2021, parts of stage 1 of GR Flores were closed after bad weather, but seem to have reopened, always worth while checking the mentioned web site for status updates.
We went by rental car and left it at the trailhead, then took the evening bus from Fazenda (17h09 at time of walking in 2019) back to Ponta Ruiva. Better check web site of the bus operator

You also can reach Ponta Ruiva in the morning by bus from Stª Cruz das Flores (left 7h05), and then back from Fazenda do Stª Cruz at 18h17 (or walk all the way back to Stª Cruz, not that far any more, if you take the road, doesn't have too much traffic).
Our trail time included a 45 min picnic break, and at the end we still explored a bit the village of Fazenda.

Option Trilho dos Caímbros
At this point we diverted from GR Flores, which descends the Trilho dos Caímbros down to the coast, passing by a picnic area. Instead we followed the road (less strenous but further to go).

Here the Trilho dos Caímbros ends and we join GR Flores again.
