This is one of the best hidden treasures of the north coast of the island of Porto Santo.
Porto das Salemas is a small and beautiful cove, very well hidden but worth a visit.
We start by going towards Fonte da Areia on the north coast of the island and follow the directions that are on the road pointing the way to Port of Salemas.
You will reach a point where the indication is to follow a dirt road. You can use your car in the first few meters of the dirt track, parking it in the wide area before starting the descent (N 33º 05.504, W16º 20.644).
If you have a 4WD you can continue to descend.
The track is quite steep in some parts and with some loose stone, so be careful.
When arriving at Port of Salemas you can take some time to observe some interesting geological phenomena.
The site has fireplaces and picnic tables.
You should visit this place only with a low tide, so that you can enjoy and dive in these clear waters.
With the right conditions, small natural pools with sandy bottoms are formed.
ATTENTION:
- The route should only be done in good weather conditions.
- You should bring water and food, appropriate clothing and shoes (No slippers).
- Total (car - Porto das Salemas - car): 1.2km. Gradient: 120m.
- Only during low tide!
- Use only the natural pools. The beach is unsupervised and the sea on the north coast is dangerous.
