Itinerary description
La château de Montalet.
Drive to Molières-sur-Cèze.
When you arrive at the village, there is a narrow road straight ahead.
You will arrive at a large dirt parking (la grande place).
The trailhead is at the end of the parking area.
The village isn't a tourist destination, it obviously had better times.
At the trailhead take the trail towards....
The trail leads underneath a small tunnel on a dirt road along the city dump/landfill.
Follow the trail along the river.
At the 3 basins keep between the river and the basins. (Straight ahead).
At a crossing keep right on a trail that goes uphill for a short while and runs just above the river.
At the railroad, don't cross it, but keep left, go down a bit and turn right underneath a railway tunnel.
Follow the trail up to the château. (You can only see it at the basin).
Take a look at the c, it was closed and under renovation in 2012.
Take the well marked path to Le Petit Montèze.
Follow the PR 7.
At a marked crossing go to Mas Neuf.
Once on a large open space, turn right on a wide forest road marked Montalet Village.
At a chapel, turn left on the asphalt and follow the yellow markers back.
The hike is mostly a forest hike, with a small climb to the château.

Pass Molieres quickly (not an interesting village) and this will be a varied trail with beautiful views. Nice ruines of castle Montalet. (is a good place for a break when you walk the route counter clockwise)

Not easy to follow. I lost the trail twice. The poster of this trail did a great job of adding pictures at the points where I lost the trail and it was easy to pick it up again. It was a great hike on the way up but the way down is all on a small roadway.
