PR-A 378 Ruta del Viento, Los Barrancos
This circular route is on the outskirts of Campillos. It is in the heart of a wind farm (Parque Eólico).
I have to mention several things about this Sendero.
1. It is badly signposted now, as there are quite a few directional posts missing.
2. Do it in reverse to the way I did it. There is one section going downhill to Arroyo de Luis de Toro where the path is washed away and very steep and slippery underfoot. Coming down was very tricky. I imagine going up this small ravine would be the easier option.
3. It says you can do it all year round, but after rains it will be very muddy in places. Also if there are high winds in the area, it won’t be fun.
4. Use good walking boots and bring at least one walking pole. This area could get very windy at times so bring adequate clothing.
There is a small car park at the start of the walk, where there is a giant aerial and an information board.
There must be over 100 turbines in this wind farm. There are also several abandoned large Cortijos you pass that might be worth exploring.
We passed several friendly farmers ploughing the surrounding fields.
There are places where the path disappears on the downhill stretch to the arroyo, and one section where weeds were very tall and overgrown, that we had to walk on the ploughed land (which could be very muddy when wet)
It was a good walk with some challenges.
I repeat again, do it in reverse and don’t do it alone.
To get there head towards Campillos on the A357, then take the A384 heading left above Campillos, then at the roundabout take the MA 6407 for several kilometres. The parking will be on your right hand side.
