Itinerary description
Waymarked PRC06 TER Rocha do Chambre, as described in
https://trails.visitazores.com/en/trails-azores/terceira/rocha-do-chambre
Absolutely rewarding walk in the interior of Terceira, with spectacular views if cloud cover is above 700-800 m. Compared to other PR or PRC TER walks that are rated "moderate", this is clearly more challenging; I would rate it rather as moderate-difficult, due to the fact that about half of it runs on uneven ground. I hence would not recommend to do it in tennis shoes. The passages through the Japanese Cedar forest and when climbing up to Rocha do Chambre are muddy after rainfall, watch out. There are also a number of "giant steps" around 30 cm of height, that should make this difficult for children below the age of ~10y.
I would also recommend to do the walk in the prescribed direction, i.e. clockwise, since then you face the more difficult, steep and muddy passages uphill, with a gentle descent on easy tracks towards the end.
Our walking time includes a 45 min picnic lunch .

It's a beautiful but physically demanding trail. The way up can get very muddy following rainy days. Absolutely worth it, but make sure you choose a sunny day.
Thank you for your comment, Xavier, with which I fully agree. Of course real sunny days are quite rare on Terceira, which makes part of its charm to me 8-).
