Itinerary description
This follows the walk with the same name (number 33 in the 2017 edition) in the Rother guide to Gran Canaria. This is a simple route with easy navigation. The first section is along the road which you will already have driven along if you have come from Maspalomas. No problem - the road is very quiet. The recreation area offers an alternative start point, although the start suggested enables you to get all the road walking out the way at the outset.
The turn right off the road onto a forestry track is easily spotted after crossing a raised section of road as it crosses a barranco. This runs gently uphill enabling nearly all the climbing to pass almost unnoticed as you climb through the forest with views down the lake opening up as you gain height.
Eventually you reach a clearly defined Col at Cruz de la Huesta which is marked as a "crossroads" of several paths with a substantial signpost and paved area. We take the first on the right which is much more gentle than it initially appears as it meanders downhill on a clearly defined path, sometimes flanked by low walls, before emerging onto the road opposite the start.

I liked it, but would prefer to walk along the water and back instead of at the road
