Presa del Largo y Dique del Molino Caido
This is a linear riverbank walk starting from the outskirts of El Burgo, parking close to Puente Nuevo.
The Turón River comes down from its birthplace El Nacimiento. On this route there are lots of trees (including a couple of large walnut trees), and diverse vegetation, and also wildlife.
The walk picks up on the Sendero Manolo Cantaor for two thirds of the way, (there are no markings or posts as I think it’s still in the completion stage).
Eventually you crossover some large stepping stones to the other side of the River, where you pass through a small field and arrive at the Carril del Dique.
At the next junction – Cuenca Alto, take the path left going downhill which will take you to Presa del Largo – a nice little weir with flowing water. Crossover the stepping stones, and then pick up the irrigation canal, and follow it to the right until the bank gets too narrow, then climb the small embankment which picks up a path that will take you to the dike – Dique del Molino Caido. This is a lovely spot for a picnic.
To get back to Cuenca Alto crossover the dike and climb up the rock. There is a faint path here (it’s not as bad or dangerous as it looks).
Then retrace your steps back to the start.
There was about 50% shade on this walk. If you intend to do it in the summer I would suggest an early start.
This walk is also suitable for dogs.
El Burgo gets busy at the weekends, so if you want peace and tranquillity I suggest you do this easy walk during the week.
This is a lovely walk by the banks of the River Turón. I will definitely do it again soon, plus the extended version to El Nacimiento.
Don’t forget to take a picnic and bring your swimmers.
