Primavera del Cobre en el valle del Genal: Jubrique-Faraján-Alpandeire (with English version)

Este track muestra la ruta del segundo día de un recorrido circular por el valle del Genal, en Málaga, durante la llamada Primavera del Cobre de dos días de duración. Se conoce como Primavera del Cobre al espectacular fenómeno anual de la caída de la hoja en los castañares del valle del Genal.

Salimos desde la plaza de Andalucía, en Jubrique, recorriendo sus empinadas y engalanadas calles y sus “puentes”, y visitando algunas de sus fuentes. En el mirador “Era la Llana”, en la parte más alta de la población, comienza, realmente la ruta. La manera más fácil de llegar a Faraján es siguiendo el PR-A 295, pero nosotros vamos a tomar un recorrido alternativo, más largo y duro, pero, creemos que más interesante. Así que tomamos el PR-A 291, que llega hasta Benalauría, pasando por la antigua tenería. Primero, vamos remontando la loma, por la carretera y, una vez llegado a un puerto, cuando dan comienzo los castañares, cogemos un carril de tierra que baja en dirección al río Genal. Al iniciar la bajada, a lo lejos, se divisa nuestro destino final, Alpandeire, inconfundible por su imponente iglesia, conocida como “la catedral de la Serranía”. Poco antes de llegar a los restos de la antigua tenería, que se encuentra en la ribera del río, dejamos el PR-A 291 y, siguiendo el carril por el que venimos, giramos a la derecha hasta el mismo río. Aquí comienza la parte más complicada del itinerario: una vez en el río, hemos de recorrerlo aguas abajo por su margen izquierdo, hasta situarnos frente al molino de López. Son solo unos 500 m pero no hay senda y está lleno de maleza. Una vez frente al molino, vadeamos el río (para lo cual es aconsejable llevarse un calzado extra -con unas sandalias es suficiente-) y accedemos a un carril por un paso muy estrecho que bordea la valla que rodea el molino. El carril nos conduce hasta el arroyo de Gorgote, que suele llevar poca agua y puede cruzarse sin problema, saltando entre las piedras. Al otro lado del arroyo, conectamos con otro carril, que seguimos durante un tiempo. A continuación, vamos a conectar una alternancia de tramos por sendero y otros por carriles que van remontando el río Genal y sorteando los arroyos que actúan como aportes de este hasta cruzar el arroyo del Balastar. El recorrido es muy atractivo porque discurre por zonas bastante remotas, poco transitadas y llenas de una variada vegetación.
Tras cruzar el arroyo Balastar, nos encontramos con una cancela que se puede abrir y que conecta con un sendero balizado PR sumamente empinado que llega hasta Faraján. Poco antes de alcanzar la población, se encuentra el desvío para visitar las Chorreras de Balastar, lugar de gran atractivo si llevan suficiente agua.
Recorremos Faraján y nos dirigimos hacia Alpandeire por el PR-A 228, que va por el estrecho arcén de la carretera. Hay que extremar, por tanto, las precauciones, pero lo cierto es que tiene poco tráfico. Antes de llegar a Alpandeire, visitamos el mirador dedicado a fray Leopoldo, que cuenta con una estatua que es uno de los símbolos de la población.

Copper Spring in the Genal Valley: Jubrique-Faraján-Alpandeire (with English version)

This track shows the route of the second day of a circular tour through the Genal valley, in Malaga, during the so-called two-day Copper Spring. The spectacular annual phenomenon of the fall of the leaf in the chestnut groves of the Genal valley is known as the Copper Spring.

We leave from the Plaza de Andalucía, in Jubrique, touring its steep and decorated streets and its "bridges", and visiting some of its fountains. At the viewpoint "Era la Llana", in the highest part of the population, the route really begins. The easiest way to get to Faraján is by following the PR-A 295, but we are going to take an alternative route, longer and harder, but, we think it is more interesting. So we take the PR-A 291, which goes to Benalauría, passing through the old tenería. First, we go up the hill, along the road and, once we arrive at a port, when the chestnut trees begin, we take a dirt lane that goes down in the direction of the Genal River. At the beginning of the descent, in the distance, you can see our final destination, Alpandeire, unmistakable for its imposing church, known as "the cathedral of the Serranía". Shortly before reaching the remains of the old bay, which is located on the banks of the river, we leave the PR-A 291 and, following the lane where we come, we turn right to the same river. Here begins the most complicated part of the itinerary: once in the river, we have to travel it downstream along its left margin, until we are in front of the López mill. It's only about 500 m but there's no path and it's full of weeds. Once in front of the mill, we go through the river (for which it is advisable to take extra shoes - sandals is enough) and access a lane through a very narrow passage that borders the fence that surrounds the mill. The lane leads us to the Gorgote stream, which usually carries little water and can be crossed without problem, jumping between the stones. On the other side of the creek, we connect with another lane, which we continue for a while. Next, we are going to connect an alternation of sections by path and others by lanes that go up the Genal river and bypassing the streams that act as inputs of it until crossing the Balastar stream. The tour is very attractive because it runs through quite remote areas, little traveled and full of varied vegetation.

After crossing the Balastar stream, we find a gate that can be opened and that connects with an extremely steep PR marked trail that reaches Faraján. Shortly before reaching the town, there is the detour to visit the Chorreras de Balastar, a place of great attraction if they carry enough water.

We go through Faraján and head towards Alpandeire on the PR-A 228, which goes along the narrow shoulder of the road. Therefore, extreme precautions must be taken, but the truth is that it has little traffic. Before arriving in Alpandeire, we visited the viewpoint dedicated to Fray Leopoldo, which has a statue that is one of the symbols of the population.
