Itinerary description
The Presa de Peralillo is a good location for lots of exploration, on foot or on mountain bike. There is even camping at the lake.
There are several ridges to explore, as well as a trail around the lake and various camping sites. It is also possible to head over the ridge to the west and eventually to Presa de la Mata, just above Guanajuato. That route would require off-trail hiking and good back country navigation skills.
The hike described here is one of many near the Presa. Of note, there is a much higher viewpoint slightly NE of the lower high point that we went to. From there, there are vast panoramic views of the broad valley north of Dolores Hidalgo and south to San Miguel de Allende.

Fork in Trail
Road continues to right but to reach a high point, we headed left here. There are various trails where burning trees for carbon production is occurring. To reach the high point, you will need to go off trail and simply head up for about twenty minutes.

Looking back towards Presa from sheep pasture.
While the road seems the obvious way to head back to the trailhead, one can also walk up through the pasture. In general, there is a small trail following the edge of the pasture.f

I enjoy looking at your hike routes. I am one of the hike leaders from San Miguel Hiking Group. We don't know the hikes in Gunajauto but your excellent reports help.
