Puerto del Viento – Cima Blanquilla
This is a sort of circular hike. The grading is medium to hard.. Firstly I have to poit out there are hardly any proper paths to follow, and secondly there is a lot of climbing up the limestone rocks, and there are a lot of overgrown prickly bushes, especially when coming down from the summit of Cima Blanquilla (ó Cima Viento) 1428m.
The views from the summit are amazing and worth the effort if you like a bit of a challenge.
In the distance you can see Ronda, next to it the village of Arriate. You also see Sierra Alcaparaín, Sierra Cabrilla with El Burgo at the foot of the mountain. Torrecilla, the Turón valley, Serrania de Ronda, Grazalema National Park and even snow capped Sierra Nevada. This area is so peaceful and quiet, and very scenic, and there were also some birds of prey flying around.
Most of this hike you have to use your common sense to try and find the best way to the top and back down again. I found coming down a lot harder than getting to the summit.
Making my way down I cut across to the smaller hill Cerro del Cancho Lobo. From here it was a slow descent back to the start.
At the start there is a Mirador and off road parking (A366).
If you intend to this hike
Don’t do it on your own
Wear long trousers
Allow minimum 5-6 hours
I think doing it linear might be a better option, and also maybe missing Cerro Cancho del Lobo.
A challenging walk with amazing views
Very little shade
Not suitable for dogs at all.
