Itinerary description

I had planned to go from the top of the Teleférico to the Trinidad Mine and thence back to Benalmádena. However, I was quite tired just from the journey from sea level to Puerto Viejo. You can imagine my joy, when I saw a sign saying that I could get back to Benalmádena in only 6 kilometres.
The route is along the GR-249, which for a footpath, in this part of the world is as wide and flat as they get.
If you are really lucky you may glimpse Bonelli’s eagle or various falcons, but I was not that lucky or simply short-sighted. I can vouch for the fact that the chameleon is elusive. However, I could see the Aleppo Pine for the hills are full of them. There are also Mastic trees , black hawthorn and juniper along the way.
The path is always heading downhill, but occasionally there is a little climb. Some descent stretches of the path I found quite taxing. However, it could just be me, since I noticed treads from mountain bikes. How they do it I cannot imagine. A bigger question is why. Life is difficult enough.
Eventually, after many twists and turns, there is a split and the right-hand fork is sign-posted Benalmádena, but that really means Benalmádena Pueblo. If you are in one of the hotels on the coast, you need to take the left hand turn. This deposited me under the A7 motorway and I was on terra firma, not loose shale, to walk back into town.
This footpath is signposted as PR-A-56.
I normally record my Wikiloc treks on my phone, but this was on my tablet and the route shown just does not portray all the many twists and turns.
