Itinerary description

Puigpunyent (bus stop) - Pas de sa Ventalla - Pou de sa Plana - Puig de na Bauçana (Puig de na Bauça) 614 meters height - Coll des Molí de Vent - Puigpunyent (bus stop).

Puig de na Bauça(na) offers beautiful 360º panoramic views of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, including s'Esclop and Galatzó, and the nearby towns Galilea and Puigpunyent.
The path (mostly in woods) passes ruins in what was once an agricultural area.
The first 8.9 km is not signposted, and from then follows the GR 221 signs to Puigpunyent.

From the Puigpunyent bus stop walk down the main street Carrer Sa Travessia and turn left onto Carrer de la Vila.
After 0.75 km the ascent starts.
After 1.58 km at a road barrier: turn right on a narrow path.
After 1.65 km the path crosses a low stone wall and follows a narrow path.
After 1.90 km the path becomes a wider road again.
Turn left after 2.34 km at the road cross with an old olive tree and turn right after 2.75 km and left after 3.23 km.
After 3.37 km there is a gate with a sign “private property”. Pass on the right side.
After 4.48 km at a well and small stone pyramid: turn right and leave the road into a hardly visible path in the woods.
Look for the small stone pyramids as signs for the path.
Shortly after there is the short easy climb of Pas de sa Ventalla (photo number 2).
After approx. 6.5 km there is an open piece of land where one can walk around in stead of the short cut across.
There is easy stone steps up to the peak (7.15 km).
After 8.90 km the path joins GR 221 from Calviá to Puigpunyent.
And after 9.61 km reaches and follows the main road for 60 meters.
After 10.12 km the path again reaches the main road and follows this for 320 meters until 10.45 km and then again from 10.60 km all the way to Puigpunyent.

Although the peak is just 616 metres high, its isolated location and rounded shape make this mountain a landmark that is easily recognisable from many parts of the island. In the early 20th century, Gabriel Alzamora, owner of Son Cortell, President of the Society for the Promotion of Tourism and mayor of Palma, commissioned the construction of a viewpoint on the peak, overlooking the Calvià coastline and part of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range.

Puigpunyent:
The name Puigpunyent, which means “pointed mountain” comes from the Puig del Galatzó peak. A village surrounded by valleys planted with orange and almond trees, with terraces where ancient olive trees grow. A town divided into two traditional quarters: the older Son Bru and the more modern La Vila, which sprang up around the church. Agriculture, livestock farming and forestry were the principal economic driving forces until the mid-20th century, traditionally associated with the activity of the large estates. As for the built heritage, look out for the Church of La Asunción de la Virgen María, constructed between the 17th and 19th centuries and home to a 14th century gothic image of Our Lady of Navigators, which came from the Cathedral, and the mannerist reredos of Our Lady of Loreta, which dates back to 1597.
